Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 July 2026
This is a plain-English summary of how Volt Directory handles personal data. It is not legal advice. We may update it — the "last updated" date above shows the current version.
1. Who we are
Volt Directory ("Volt", "we", "us") is a UK business directory operated as a sole trader based in England & Wales. We are the data controller for information described in this policy.
Contact: voltdirectory@gmail.com
2. What we collect
From business owners: business name, category, contact name, email address, phone number, website, service area and postcode, description and services, and any photos you upload for your listing.
From site visitors: the contents of enquiry forms you submit (name, email, optional phone, message). These are forwarded to the business you contacted.
Technical data: IP address and browser info in server logs for security and abuse prevention. We use strictly-necessary cookies for session and authentication only. We do not currently run analytics or advertising trackers.
3. How we use it
- Publishing your listing on the directory.
- Contacting business owners about their listing (invites, approval or rejection notices, service updates).
- Forwarding customer enquiries to the listed business's email.
- Fraud, abuse and moderation.
- Improving the directory (in aggregate, not by tracking individuals).
4. Legal basis (UK GDPR)
- Legitimate interests — cold outreach to publicly-listed business contact details, where the recipient can opt out via the unsubscribe link in every invite email.
- Contract — providing the service to owners who have claimed their listing.
- Legal obligation — responding to lawful requests and record-keeping.
5. Who we share it with
- The listed business — the contents of any enquiry submitted to them.
- Infrastructure providers acting as processors on our behalf (hosting, database, email delivery). These providers only process data on our instructions.
- Law enforcement / regulators where we are legally required to do so.
We do not sell personal data to advertisers or list-brokers as part of our normal operations.
6. Business transfers
If Volt Directory is sold, merged, restructured, or its assets are acquired, listing and account data may be transferred to the buyer as part of that transaction. Any acquirer will be bound by a privacy notice at least as protective as this one. Where practical, we will notify affected users by email before the transfer takes effect.
7. How long we keep it
Live listings are kept while active. If you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record (business name, email, phone) on a suppression list indefinitely, purely so we don't accidentally contact you again. You can ask us to delete this too — see Your rights below.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct inaccurate data;
- ask us to delete your data (subject to legal exceptions);
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- data portability where applicable;
- complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
To exercise any of these, email voltdirectory@gmail.com or use the unsubscribe link in any invite email.
9. International transfers
Some of our processors may store data outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are protected by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the UK addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Children
Volt Directory is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
